Alexandra Lianeri

Alexandra Lianeri studied philology at the University of Athens (1991) and Translation Studies at the University of Warwcik (MA 1995), where she also completed her PhD (2001). She has been Junior Research Fellow at the Institute of Hellenic and Roman Studies of the University of Bristol (2001-2003) and Moses Finley Fellow at the University of Cambridge (2003-2007). She has taught modules on the translation and reception of Greek antiquity, ancient historiography, theory of historiography and ancient Greek political thought at the Universities of Warwick, Bristol, Cambridge and Athens. Her research interest include the theory and history of translation with emphasis on the reception of Greek antiquity, historiography and philosophy of history, the relations between ancient and modern European thought and critical theory. Her latest publications concerning the workshop’s main topic are “Towards a New Athens? Translating Dêmokratia in Nineteenth-Century English Thought” (Oxford University Press, forthcoming 2011) or “Ancient History and Western Historical Thought. The Construction of Classical Time(s)” (επιμ.) (Cambridge University Press, 2011).
