Kenan van de Mieroop

Kenan Van De Mieroop is a doctoral candidate at the University of Ghent. He researches the debates about reparations for slavery in the United States and France. He is also interested in phenomenological arguments about the experience of temporality and history, in particular the work of Ricoeur and Heidegger. Moreover, he is particularly interested in the historiography of Civil Rights and Black Power, and in the commemorative practice of Black History Month. His latest publication concerning the workshop’s main topic is “The 'age of commemoration' as a narrative construct: A critique of the discourse on the contemporary crisis of memory in France,” in: Rethinking History: The Journal of Theory and Practice 20, S. 172-191.
